ALEXA ROCCANOVA
Can one be driven to madness? Is “madness” a genetic inevitability or a result of circumstance? Originally inspired by Jean Rhys’ fictional novel, Wide Sargasso Sea and its protagonist, Antoinette Cosway, my thesis is an exploration of the historical and modern day mistreatment of psych patients and the stigma associated with disability. Beauty lies in an overactive mind – the more complex, the more compelling and seductive. Through the aesthetic of my collection I hope to convey both the contrast and natural magnetism between physical restriction, undisciplined imagination and emotion.
